Madey Slaughter Memorial

In January 2010 Madey Slaughter was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. Prior to her diagnosis Madey was active in both basketball and softball. Madey played many games and tournaments at the Barnes Sportsplex. She loved that it was close to home and her parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, uncles and aunts could come watch her play. She referred to it as her home field. She began playing softball in elementary school, first for Layton City, later for Kaysville City. As she got older her desire to compete on a higher level grew and she began playing comp softball with many of her former teammates. She loved the game. Madey was solid at first base and had a great bat, she loved to hit.  Madey had looked forward to trying out for her High School team prior to her cancer diagnosis. Once she began losing her hair due to chemotherapy she told her dad it was okay because now she didn't need to pull it back with a scrunchie. She would often talk about the smell of her glove or the feel of the dirt as she reminisced about playing softball. Madey passed away on January 11, 2011. We are pleased that so many wish to remember and honor her through the spirit of sportsmanship and competition."
