[ARCHIVED] INCIDENT - Villarreal-Valero - Attempted Break-In Arrest

PRESS RELEASE - POLICE

A 26-year-old male has been arrested following an attempted break-in at a Kaysville residence on the morning of September 18, 2024, while a mother and her three children were inside.

Cristopher Alexandro Villarreal-Valero, was spotted outside the home wearing a black hoodie, gloves, and carrying a baseball bat. The residents reported seeing him rummaging through boxes in their garage and attempting to enter their home.

Officers from the Kaysville Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 7:25 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located Villarreal-Valero with the bat and gave him commands which he did not follow.  The responding officers initially experienced a language barrier with Villarreal-Valero as he only spoke Spanish.

Villarreal-Valero was arrested and subsequently explained, to Spanish speaking officers, that he found the bat in the backyard of the residence and intended to use it for self-defense.  He also indicated that he intended on breaking into the home to obtain a drink of water.

Villarreal-Valero was booked into the Davis County Jail where it was later determined that he had given officers a false name.  He was charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, and providing false information to a peace officer.  At the jail, Villarreal-Valero was placed on an ICE detainer as he is a Venezuelan national charged with a felony.

Some of Villareal-Valero’s property was located at an adjacent, vacant, property owned by UDOT.   Concerns have been expressed that this property has been used as a staging point for crimes committed recently in the area.  Kaysville City has been working with UDOT over the past several weeks to convey the property to the City.  Kaysville City anticipates demolishing the vacant home that exists on the property in the coming weeks.
