[ARCHIVED] Water Discoloration

photo-1535868118629-f37bcd69ff59

As part of the utility relocation work for the Highway 89 project, on Monday and Tuesday (3/9-3/10) UDOT drained nearly 2.5 miles of Weber Basin Water Conservancy District’s (WBWCD) delivery line. As a result of the draining and filling back up, some of the particulates that settle in all pipe lines were stirred up in the WBWCD line. The resulting discolored water, is not uncommon when there are unusually high flows of water in a line (like during a water leak), nor are they indicative of water not being safe to drink.

Other Cities have reported significant amounts of discolored water entering their system, but discoloration in Kaysville City’s distribution system seems to be significantly less due to Kaysville City water crews shutting off 2 of our 3 connections to WBWCD on Monday. If you are experiencing discolored water, this is usually easily resolved by running cold water through a tub, shower or other taps for as long as 20-30 minutes, or until the discoloration disappears. Please note that this may take longer for larger facilities or locations with large amounts of plumbing.
