2025 Main Street Parade AwardsA favorite tradition of Kaysville’s Fourth of July is the Main Street Parade, where 30,000 spectators gather to celebrate freedom and enjoy nearly two miles of entertainment from local businesses, schools, and civic groups. Each entry puts in hours of preparation, competing for the title of Main Street Parade Champion—awarded to the group best reflecting the year’s theme.

The 2025 Parade Champion is Redemption Church–North Davis, a two-year-old church just east of Barnes Park that hosts Sunday services, block parties, and community events. Their winning entry best embodied this year’s theme, “Red, White, and Blue–Through and Through.” The traveling trophy will be displayed at the church until July 2026.

Join the Celebration: Kaysville’s Historic Main Street Parade July 4th, 2026As we enter September, which is recognized as American Founders and Constitution Month in Utah, it’s the perfect time to look ahead to July 4, 2026, when America celebrates its 250th anniversary. Independence Day 2026 will be more than just another July 4th holiday. It’s an iconic moment in our nation’s history, and Kaysville is ready to honor it in a big way. That’s why we’re inviting YOU—our neighbors, local entrepreneurs, schools, churches and civic groups—to take part in the 2026 Kaysville Main Street Parade. Why Join the Main Street Parade?• Be Part of History: This is a unique and meaningful moment—America’s 250th birthday. Your participation ensures Kaysville plays an active role in this national celebration. • Showcase Local Pride and Patriotism: Whether you're a business, church, civic group, school organization, or just someone who wants to get involved, this is your chance to show the heart of Kaysville pride and love for America. • Build Community Spirit: The Main Street Parade is about connection. Families and friends gather together to wave flags, to cheer for unsung heroes, and to celebrate our American freedoms and responsibilities. • Inspire Future Generations: The Main Street Parade is an opportunity to help our youth understand what it means to love America. Creative floats, patriotic costumes, choirs and bands entertain and educate parade spectators as we focus on our shared American history and culture How You Can Get Involved:• Register an Entry – We eagerly anticipate the entry of patriotic floats, decorated cars and trucks, and local choirs and bands that will perform American music along the parade route. We look forward to Kaysville citizens portraying the founding fathers and mothers of America and others creating floats rooted in American historical events. What piece of American history or culture will your entry promote? Think George Washington, John and Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Betsy Ross, the Liberty Bell, Uncle Sam, Davy Crockett, the Statue of Liberty, baseball, and “as American as apple pie” – we want it all! • Volunteer – A parade of this magnitude takes effort. Volunteers are needed to help with every aspect of the parade—organization, recruitment, logistics, and parade day setup. Volunteer to be part of the engine that makes this annual celebration run smoothly. This isn’t just another year. This is 250 years in the making. Let’s come together to create a Main Street Parade celebration that our children and grandchildren will remember for decades to come. Parade registration will open January 2026—watch the city website, Facebook page and newsletter for updates! For additional information, please contact Kaysville Parade Director, Heidi Christensen, at kaysvilleparadedirector@gmail.com. Let’s collaborate to pull together an incredible parade. Let’s make history together, Kaysville. See you on the parade route!

Why do I Need a Building Permit? The Kaysville Building Department receives daily phone calls about building permit requirements. Obtaining a building permit can be vital to ensuring that your project meets Utah State Code (2021 IRC or 2021 IBC) and it is inspected by a City Building Inspector. Most contractors and many residents are aware that building permits are required for structural improvements and need to meet 140 mph, Exp B wind speed with engineered stamped calculations. But what about smaller non-structural projects? According to the 2021 IRC (International Residential Code) R105.1 : Any owner or owner’s authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be performed, shall first make application to the building official and obtain the required permit. Generally, if it needs to be inspected for electrical, framing, plumbing, mechanical or other building-related items, it most likely requires a permit. If it is strictly cosmetics, like flooring, paint or cabinets, it does not require a permit. If you are unsure, contact the Building Department. Building permit benefits include: • Plans reviewed to meet Utah state code compliance • Contractors’ license information verified with DOPL • Inspections by ICC Certified City Building Inspectors • Permit recorded with Kaysville City & Davis County • Obeying the law! (Kaysville Title 18-1-8) Avoid potential fines or Class C misdemeanor charges If you sell your property, building permits for home improvements are essential. Be advised that building permits are public records. The Building Department receives repeated GRAMA requests from realtors and/or perspective buyers regarding the permitting of basements and other improvements. Also, be aware that finalizing a permit is just as important as obtaining a permit. The permit remains active if inspections are scheduled but will expire if no activity occurs within 180 days. Once the final inspection passes, the permit closes, documenting that all compliance requirements were met. A frequent building permit is a basement finish. The fee is $245.70 regardless of square footage. This fee has intentionally remained the same for years to encourage residents to apply for a permit. The fee covers the plan review, the 4-way, insulation and final inspection. To start any building permit application, click here and create an account to access the digital application. Please select the type of building permit template to prompt the attachment plans required. If you have questions about the application process or any other building permit topic, please contact the Building Department at 801-544-1363.

Rabies Awareness: Protecting Yourself, Your Family, and Your PetsThe Davis County Health Department, in partnership with Davis County Animal Care and Control, is raising awareness about the risk of rabies to both people and pets—especially as Utah’s bat population begins migrating with the change of seasons. Bats are the most common carrier of rabies in Utah, with cases found every year—including four rabid bats in Davis County last year. Rabies affects the brain and nervous system and is almost always fatal if not treated right away. It spreads through the saliva of infected animals, usually by a bite or scratch. The Davis County Health Department has compiled a Rabies Communications and Resource Guide to help residents understand the risks and know what to do in the event of an exposure. Protect yourself and your pets: - Keep pet vaccinations up to date. - Avoid contact with bats and other wild animals. - If bitten or scratched, wash the wound, seek medical care immediately, and report the incident. - Report any bat found in a sleeping area, even without visible bites. Contacts: - Davis County Health Department: 801-525-5220 - Animal Care of Davis County: 801-444-2200 - Utah Division of Wildlife Resources: 801-476-2740 For more resources, visit the Davis County Health Department or CDC websites.
