Orchard Ridge Flooding

Protect your Home from Flooding

While the city is not in direct threat of significant flooding within our city limits at this time, the flooding that occurred on April 12th at the Orchard Ridge neighborhood has reminded us all of the importance of being prepared just in case. Floods are among the most common and widespread natural disasters in Utah. With Utah's record snowfall in 2023, there is even more heightened flood risks this spring. Even those outside of an identified flood risk area can experience flooding.

The State of Utah and Utah State University have put together some very informative resources on flood mitigation and what you can do to prepare your property and your family in case of flooding:

Orchard Ridge Service

What a Great Community We Have

During the early morning house and throughout the day on April 12, Kaysville Public Works worked closely throughout, along with Kaysville Police, Kaysville Fire, Kaysville Power, Kaysville Parks, Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, Davis County Public Works and Oak Hills to channel the runoff water away from the collapsed areas and down into another storm drain system in the Orchard Ridge neighborhood. City crews deployed 1,000 city-owned sandbag supply, and received additional support from Davis County (who provided over 2,000 sandbags) and Washington Heights Church (who donated over 3,000 sandbags). A small army of residents and staff helped to fill and place an additional 1,000 sandbags late into the evening. The city received many offers and requests from residents and businesses for how people could help.  We are extremely thankful for the many offers and for those willing to help minimize the impacts of flooding as much as possible.  We truly live in a great community.

Sewer Drain

Do Not Drain Excess Water into Sewers

Spring weather can present challenges both to homeowners and to our sewer service providers.  When homeowners illegally drain excess water into the sewer system it can cause problems by overloading the sewer collection lines, resulting in potential sewer water backing up into homes.  The sewer treatment plant spends additional time and money to treat this excess stormwater that it was never designed to treat.  If you have a sump pump that is discharging into the sewer, please redirect it to a legal means of drainage. If you are unsure of how to accomplish this or if you are unsure if you have an illegally connected sump pump, please contact Kaysville City Public Works.

Ways to prevent water from getting into your home:

- Make sure your lot is graded properly so water drains away from buildings. Sandbags can be placed around window wells to help keep water out.
- Install extensions or splash blocks on rain gutters to redirect water away from your house.
- Check your sump pump and consider having a spare.
- Repair any cracks in your foundation and basement walls.
- Do not leave sprinklers on too long, or too often.

Sol Oberg, Police Chief of the Year

2022 Police Chief of the Year Award

Kaysville's own Chief Solomon Oberg recently received the 2022 Chief of the Year award from the Utah Chiefs of Police Association.  Chief Oberg told the city council at their April 13 city council meeting that "This award is more of a team award because he couldn't be successful with what he does without the great men and women that make up Kaysville's Police Department.  This award is just a reflection of the great work that they do."

Join us in giving a huge congratulations to Chief Oberg!
